Support the Epilepsy Foundation of Kentuckiana on Kentucky Gives Day
Epilepsy is the fourth most common serious brain disease worldwide. In the United States, 1 in 26 people will develop epilepsy in their lifetime, and more than 174,000 Kentuckians are currently living with this complex neurological condition. Epilepsy affects people of all ages, races, and backgrounds—and anyone with a brain can have a seizure.
The Epilepsy Foundation of Kentuckiana (EF Kentuckiana) was founded in 1993 as a grassroots organization inspired by the unwavering love of two mothers advocating for their daughters with epilepsy. Their passion ignited a movement that continues today—supporting individuals and families through education, community services, advocacy, access to care, and research initiatives.
EF Kentuckiana is proud to be a national leader in epilepsy advocacy. In 2018, Kentucky became the first state in the nation to pass Seizure Smart Schools legislation (HB 147, the Lyndsey Crunk Act). This groundbreaking law requires seizure first aid training for school personnel, ensures access to FDA‑approved rescue medications, and mandates seizure action plans for students. Because of this leadership, similar seizure‑safe school laws have since been adopted in many states across the country—saving lives and reducing fear for students and families.
Despite medical advances, epilepsy remains one of the most misunderstood and stigmatized neurological conditions. Too many people live in fear of the next seizure, lacking education, support, or access to care. That’s why our work has never been more important.
Our mission is bold:
To improve the lives of people affected by epilepsy through education, advocacy, research, and connection.
On Kentucky Gives Day, your donation directly supports life‑changing programs for individuals and families across our region. Together, we can build a future where no one faces epilepsy alone—and where seizures no longer define possibility.
Thank you for giving hope. Thank you for giving today.
